Statement Regarding RegentsÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™ Motions On Student Residency

Atlanta — June 9, 2010

During the Board of RegentsÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™ monthly meeting today, the topic of one agenda item was residency verification. Out of the boardÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™s discussion, Regent Kenneth R. Bernard Jr. proposed two motions, which were approved by the Board. The two motions are:

  1. In order to reaffirm the chancellorÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™s directives, I move that the Board of RegentsÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™ policy be amended to deny any waiver to the difference between resident and non-resident tuition to any person not lawfully present in the United States.

  2. In order to reaffirm the ChancellorÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™s directives, I move that the Board of Regents direct the chancellor to require campus review of all applications for admission for the fall semester, 2010, within 60 days of todayÖгöÉÙ¸¾ÊÓƵ™s date, to determine whether undocumented persons are receiving, or about to receive, a state, local or federal benefit prohibited by federal or state law.
