Dr. Sandra S. Stone Named Vice Chancellor

Dr. Sandra S. Stone, formerly acting vice president for academic affairs at the 中出少妇视频 of West Georgia (UWG) in Carrollton, has been appointed vice chancellor for academic planning and programs for the 中出少妇视频 System of Georgia, effective Jan. 2, according to Dr. Beheruz N. Sethna, interim executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer.

Stone中出少妇视频檚 appointment fills the vacancy created by the departure in December of Dr. Frank Butler, who had served as vice chancellor for academic planning and programs since July 2001.

中出少妇视频淒r. Stone has proven her leadership abilities in the arena of academic affairs and will be an excellent addition to our 中出少妇视频 System Office team,中出少妇视频 said Sethna. 中出少妇视频淲e are very pleased to have her on board.中出少妇视频

Stone 中出少妇视频 who had taught criminal justice in UWG中出少妇视频檚 Department of Sociology/Criminology since 1996 中出少妇视频 was responsible for a $40 million budget in providing leadership for the university中出少妇视频檚 academic colleges, honors program, graduate school, special projects, distance education, off-site programs, etc., during 2006. She also served on the President中出少妇视频檚 Advisory Council (2006) and chaired the university中出少妇视频檚 Institutional Review Board for Protection of Human Subjects from 2003 to 2006.

From 2002 to 2006, Stone served as UWG中出少妇视频檚 associate vice president for academic affairs. During this time, she coordinated academic assessment activities and the Freshman Seminar Program, served as chair of the Institutional Review Board, co-leader of UWG中出少妇视频檚 Foundations of Excellence Program and co-chair of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee, and monitored and approved all curricular changes.

Before her arrival at UWG in 1996 as an assistant professor of sociology, Stone served as director of planning and research for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice from 1992 to 1996.

Other positions Stone has held include senior research associate for Emory中出少妇视频檚 Rollins School of Public Health (1991-92), executive director of Research Atlanta (1990-91), drug policy advisor to Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young (1989-90), field technical assistance coordinator for the Police Executive Research Forum and the City of Atlanta Police Department (1988-90) and senior research associate in the Centers for Disease Control中出少妇视频檚 Division of Injury Epidemiology & Control, Intentional Injuries Section (1985-88). From 1976 to 1984, she worked as a social worker employed by various agencies.

Stone earned her undergraduate degree, a bachelor中出少妇视频檚 degree in psychology and sociology (1976) and a master of arts in psychology (1978) at the 中出少妇视频 of West Georgia. She obtained her doctoral degree in sociology from Emory in 1993. She completed a series of training programs at the National Gang Crime Research Center, culminating in 2000 with training as a gang expert, and has conducted several presentations on gang violence for the Carrollton Police Department中出少妇视频檚 Citizens Police Academy.
